How to care for your Polène creation?

Maison Polène creations are crafted from noble materials and designed to accompany you over time. To preserve their natural beauty and ensure their longevity, we recommend following these dedicated care instructions.

General Care Principles

To protect your item on a daily basis, follow these precautions:

  • Environment: Protect your bag from moisture, intense light, and direct sources of heat, which can cause irreversible damage or alter the colour.
  • Contact: Avoid contact with fatty substances (oils), cosmetics, perfumes, or abrasive materials that could stain or scratch the leather and metal hardware.
  • Storage: When not in use, place your bag in its protective dust bag. You can stuff it with white tissue paper to maintain its original silhouette.
  • Dye Transfer: Avoid repeated friction with dark-coloured or new clothing as much as possible to reduce the risk of colour bleeding onto the material.

Care by Material

Full-Grained Calf Leather

Polène’s grained leather is selected for its character and durability.

  • Maintenance: Avoid the use of aggressive chemicals. For light cleaning, apply a dry cleaning foam with a soft brush without rubbing.
  • Protection: Keep away from water, greasy substances, perfumes, and cosmetic products. Take particular care with dark and new clothes, as the dye may bleed.
  • Storage: Store in its dust bag and avoid overfilling the bag to prevent stretching the leather.

Smooth Calf Leather

Sourced from certified European tanneries, this leather requires minimal but precise maintenance.

  • Moisture: If the bag gets wet, dab it gently with a soft cloth and allow it to air dry naturally.
  • Care Products: You do not need to apply any creams or moisturisers to this leather type.
  • Precautions: Avoid prolonged exposure to light and heat to prevent the leather from drying out.

Full-Grain Nappa Calf Leather

This exceptionally supple and noble material is known for its smooth, delicate finish.

  • Maintenance: No specific care products or creams should be applied to this leather.
  • Stains & Moisture: In case of stains or moisture, gently blot the surface with a soft, dry cloth without rubbing.
  • Protection: Protect from repeated friction and store away from heat and humidity in its dust bag.

Natural Raffia

Handwoven from natural fibres, raffia is exceptionally sensitive to humidity.

  • Maintenance: Keep away from direct light, heat, and oily substances.
  • In case of moisture: Gently blot the surface with a soft, dry cloth and allow it to air dry naturally.
  • Structure: Do not overload the bag to preserve its handwoven shape and structure.

Merino Wool

Sourced from the plains of Uruguay, this fine material requires delicate handling.

  • Cleaning: Never machine wash, tumble dry, or iron. In case of stains, apply a dry-cleaning foam with a soft brush without rubbing.
  • Protection: If it becomes damp, absorb excess moisture with a soft cloth and air dry naturally.
  • Storage: Store in its dust bag without overloading to maintain the suppleness of the knit.

Essential Conditions

  • Waterproofing: If your item is exposed to water, always allow it to air dry naturally. Never use a hairdryer or artificial heat source.
  • Professional Care: For stubborn stains or technical repairs, we recommend consulting a leather goods specialist.
  • Immediate Action: Address spills or stains immediately to prevent them from becoming permanent.
